Au naturale and undone is fine and well, but Katie Holmes looked downright bedraggled on the red carpet Sunday night.
Her slovenly hairstyle was perpetrated at an event that should have been near and dear to the actress’ heart – the inaugural gala for her Dizzy Feet Foundation, which helps provide dance scholarships to gifted kids who otherwise couldn’t afford to fulfill their promise.
Holmes wore a little black shift that she dressed down with a chic off-white leather motorcycle jacket, and she rounded out her understated outfit with thick-strapped black heels.
It wasn’t the kind of outfit you’d expect for the splashy fund-raiser for a fledgling foundation that the 31-year-old wife of Tom and mommy of Suri attached her name to when she appeared on “So You Think You Can Dance” last summer.
But while her duds lacked pizzazz it was her hair that was really out of step, with flyaway strands hanging in her face – when they weren’t sticking up and forming a messy halo around her pretty face.
Mrs. Cruise was arguably the biggest name at the function, held Sunday night at the Kodak theater in Hollywood. She appeared alongside dance reality show judges Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman of “So You Think You Can Dance” and Carrie Ann Inaba of “Dancing With the Stars,” which wrapped up its ninth season last week after crowning Donny Osmond the winner.
Holmes famously appeared on the former show, performing a song-and-dance number to help launch the charity in July.
Still, you can’t necessarily blame Holmes for looking thrown together. She flew in from New York, where she’s been a busy working mom, tending to Suri while filming upcoming rom com “The Romantics,” in which she’s appearing as a last minute replacement for Liv Tyler. Maybe she left her hair stuff back on location, in Long Island.
